Material Memories

Material Memories is a hands-on exploration of how materials can carry memory. Through experimental craftsmanship and site-specific work, the project documents forgotten buildings and disappearing landscapes—spaces fading from public view and imagination.
At each site, I set up temporary material labs to test traditional techniques and everyday materials—like wax, starch, paper, and clay—on simple 40 x 40 cm tiles. These experiments are gathered in the growing Material Library, where familiar materials are reimagined as tools for memory. Not innovative, but deeply symbolic, they help activate personal and collective stories.
During expeditions to abandoned buildings, I explored how certain materials respond to the physical, historical, and emotional layers of a site. By creating small-scale artifacts from these places, I preserve their essence without physically altering them.
Material Memories is a way to engage with loss, space, and memory—using craft not just as a technique, but as a quiet language of remembrance.
